OUR STORY SO FAR.........

Hugh Kelly aged 42 & Charlie Pettigrew aged 45 are joint owners of The Hollow Bottom Pub in Guiting Power, Cheltenham.

Both having lost a parent through Cancer they decided one night over a "few" beers that it would be a great idea to run a Marathon and raise some funds for MacMillan Cancer Support.

They are now committed to run The New York City Marathon on Sunday 7th November 2010.

Unfortunately the reality has set in...........Hugh has never ran more than 5miles in his life (and that was only to get away from someone) & Charlie, although he has completed 2 Marathons before now realises that they were 25years ago (and his body is not in quite the same shape as it was)

The training starts in July over 16 weeks and we will keep you updated with progress (or the lack of it!)

We have started a little light training recently...............Hugh has jogged round his back garden for 12 minutes (not continuously of course) and has only 3 pizzas a week at present!

Charlie on the other hand has got quite serious and only this week decided that he was going to start drinking just Vodka & Soda from now on.........(Monday's don't count of course when Grapes are allowed in large quantities)

Well, clearly we have a bit of work to do.........................

Update 29th August 2010

Well we are now 70 days away from NYC and the training is not good.

Both our minds are willing but the bodies are letting us down with little injuries which we cant run on.

Bristol Half Marathon is planned for next Sunday but will need to see how this week turns out..............................................

However we WILL be doing New York no matter what state we are in !!

Update 6th September 2010

Bristol Half Marathon 5th September. Charlie unfortunatley was injured but is hoping to recover in next week and get ready for London Half 26th September while Hugh had a good week training (though Fridays Hollow Bottom Golf day & night was a bit heavy) but managed to complete Bristol in 1:53:38.

Update 29th September 2010

Both back on track now having completed Run to the Beat London Half Marathon on Sunday. Charlie's injury has loosened off thanks to some sports massage and  with only 39 days to go now we will both be attempting some very long runs over the next few weeks and doing Cardiff half Marathon on 17th October before scaling down for the big one!

FINAL UPDATE

Wow what a night ! A Sixties fundraiser was held at the pub with Manhattan Cocktails, New York theme 3 course dinner, Live Sixties singer & most importantly a Silent Auction which was brilliantly organised by Katie from the pub. Total raised last night was £3040 which puts us over our original £6000 target. A massive thank you from us both to everyone who has so generously supported us.

Now all that is left to do is RUN! (and get rid of this Manhattan Cocktail induced hangover)

THANK YOU, THANK YOU & THANK YOU.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help.........every little has been much appreciated.

Hugh & Charlie

FINAL TOTAL £8048.34

It was an amazing experience for both of us. Thanks to all who contributed xx
