First Monster 120k Duathlon · 12 September 2009

Motor Neurone Disease moves fast. It takes away time, it takes away independence and it has no cure. Every day we support people affected by MND. We fund ground-breaking research. We campaign for better care. We’re here for everyone who needs us. Because with MND, every day matters.

Story

The Humphreys Family are doing a 120K bike run team relay around Loch Ness - The First Moster

This event has a huge meaning to Ian, David, Karen and Alison, we have never done anything like this as a family, and most importantly we are doing this to raise awareness and money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND), a charity very close to all our hearts. MND is a horrible disease it took David’s best friend Alan, who was also Ian’s brother in law and a good friend to the whole family.

MND is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks the upper and lower motor neurones. Degeneration of the motor neurones leads to weakness and wasting of muscles, causing increasing loss of mobility in the limbs, and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing. There is no cure. The charity supplies support to families with members that have MND and also help to fund in the research for a cure.

So as you read this sat at your desk, or at home think of us putting in the miles in training and dig deep, then think about how little is known about this disease and why it strikes and dig a bit deeper.  The money raised will help those afflicted and their families it will also help fund research which, one day perhaps, will find a cure.

All your donations will help propel us around the 120k course on the shores of Loch Ness. Realistically we will not be the quickest its possible we may be the slowest but what does that matter we will all finish with a smile and a huge sense of achievement not only for us but for Alan who would have loved to have been here with us.
