Round Britain Challenge · 15 October 2005 to 29 October 2005 ·

Stephanie Moore MBE set up the Bobby Moore Fund in partnership with Cancer Research UK, following the death of her husband, Bobby Moore, from bowel cancer. The Bobby Moore Fund is now a leader in the fight against bowel cancer, funding research that’s helping more people to survive than ever before.

Story

Round Britain & Ireland Challenge 2005.

I have just completed this gruelling 12 day non-stop circumnavigation of Britain and Ireland on board Spirit of Sark which came 1st in this "full on" yacht race.

I have taken part in this challenge in order to raise a substantial amount of money for the Bobby Moore fund for Cancer Research UK, which specifically funds research into bowel cancer. I paid for my own berth and so all money raised will go directly to the charity. This has been a very challenging offshore race and has certainly been no walk in the park. Big seas, gale force winds, sleep depravation, boil in the bag food, being wet, the biting cold of the Shetlands, and sea sickness were the norm for 12 days. It's something worth reflecting on when considering how much to donate. You can find more details and pictures of the race at:
