Flora London Marathon 2008 · 13 April 2008 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the leading charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. You will be pleased to know I completed the London marathon 2008 successfully in a time of 3 hrs 33 minutes and 13 seconds. My legs were very stiff on Tuesday and Wednesday but have recovered.  I have entered next year's marathon, though I do not expect to get in.

I have been a volunteer with the Phoenix Stroke Club in Horsham for about 18 months now. They are affiliated to the Stroke Association and provide support for survivors of stroke.

Every year an estimated 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke.  Stroke has a greater disability impact than any other medical condition. A quarter of a million people are living with long-term disability as a result of stroke in the UK.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also a very efficient way to sponsor me: The Stroke Association will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

I first ran the London Marathon for the Stroke Association in 1991.  It has been 17 years since I asked people to support them.  Please support their work to reduce stroke and combat its effects by sponsoring me now!

Many thanks.

Iain
