Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm collecting on behalf of Alzheimer's Scotland, in memory of my Papa - George Rex (stage name).
A bit of history...
I think it was a safe bet that I would end up working in music; my Dad was a piano player and trumpet player with the U.S. Navy - my Mum was a guitar player / singer and MD with her female-harmony driven, acoustic bands 'The Country Girls' (who were friends of Billy Connelly's 'Humblebums') and 'The Honeybirds' (who performed on Opportunity Knocks).
As if that wasn't enough, my Nana was a dancer and performer throughout her life, playing every theatre in the U.K. worth it's salt and it was there she met my Papa, George Rex (stage name). He was a fantastic Scottish singer, who had - and still has - the respect of all industry professionals that knew him. I am so proud to hear the stories of his life from these theatrical pro's for whom I also have the utmost respect.
Unfortunately the last years of Papa's life were diminished and finally lost to Alzheimer's and ultimately he ended up in hospital. On what would tragically turn out to be my last visit to him while he was home for a few days, he turned and saw me, smiled and said: "Ah, Greg, my wee boy..." I was the first person he had recognised in years and last person he recognised on the day he died.
It's for this reason I've decided to run the Glasgow Half Marathon for Alzheimer Scotland and raise money to assist in the good work they do. If you could take a few minutes to give whatever you can, it would be hugely appreciated.
