Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

There will be 12 of us doing a charity coast to coast cycle ride from Whitehaven to Tynemouth over 3 days starting on the 4th May 2012.

All proceeds will be going to Alder Hey hospital following the help and support they gave to my daughter Ava and partner Yvonne before and after the birth on 13th August 2011. Ava was born with a diaphragmatic hernia. On diagnosis there was a 50/50 chance of survival. Ava had to be placed on life support after birth and operated on to repair the hernia and reposition the internal organs.

Two days later Ava had the operation and after a tense 3 hours the surgeon reported that the operation was a success Ava was placed back on life support and monitored intensely by the Alder Hey staff.

However in the early hours of the morning Yvonne was finding it difficult to breathe unbeknown that she had been suffering heart failure. With only minutes to spare the doctors took emergency action to save her. As a result Yvonne had to be put on life support and taken to the Liverpool Royal for further treatment. She came round the day after and after a week of monitoring was allowed home.

Ava soon followed after making a miraculous recovery and was home within 16 days of being born and having a life threatening operation.

The event has been organised as a thank you to the staff at Alder Hey without which things could have been very different. So please give generously.

Th team involved is as follows:

Ian Pickett

Scott Green

Jeff Dutton

Rob Worthington

Bryan Rothwell

Robin Gartland

Simon Pickett

Paul Williams

Ste Davenport

Ian Litherland

Steve Wooldridge

Anthony Range

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
