At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In Feb 2005 I lost my Mum to Vascular Dementia, hers was a mercifully short fight with this horrible illness. According to the stats 1 in 4 of us will get or have a close relative effected, by an Alzheimers  disease. It took me quite a time to 'get over' those last few months of Mum's illness, they are not something I would wish on anyone. The distress of watching someone you know turn into someone you do not then having to make very difficult and emotionally charged decisions is a searing experience (you've read all the stories in the press). My sincerest wish would be that none of you ever experience it, sadly, YOU WILL.

What do I want from you? Well I want you to maybe think 'would I buy this bloke a drink for what he is doing?' if so then don't buy me the drink,  just donate the money to me instead! If you smoke then how about dropping a packet and donating it to me? Yes I am 'rattling the tin' under your nose, would'nt you? So please dig deep donate as much as you can, and do it today before you forget, as one day you may not be able to remember.

To raise money to help find a cure for this illiness I have chosen a 'searing' (well it is quite hot there!) experience, Lanzarote Ironman Triathlon an event that starts when the gun goes with a 2.4 mile sea swim, straight to 112 miles of cycling and finishing once you cross the line after a 26.2 mile marathon run.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
