Dear all
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. One of my colleagues has described to me the fantastic care given to her mother by community nurses, which allowed her to spend so much time in her own home before recently passing away.
I was moved by the effort put in by these caring nurses, but there is a shortage of community nurses and I wanted to help fund a nurse for a year so others could receive the same assistance in such difficult times. So for the first time for a while I will be running this years London Marathon for this great cause.
Please help as much as you can
Regards
Ian
UPDATE 28 April 2009:
Thank you to everybody for sponsoring me so fa, all contributions are welcomed and this page will stay open for some time yet.
I am pleased to say I managed to achieve my target of coming under 3:30. The conditions were not great for the run, but excellent for spectating I am told. It was very warm from about 11 am onwards.
Having run the first half relatively quickly, it was necessary to slow down thereafter to make sure I could finish. The last 8 miles seemed a very long way and having slowed to a trudge, drunk as much water as possible, gone through the course showers and nabbed a fair quantity of jelly babies from helpful spectators, things started to look a little better from 24 miles. From this point I managed to pick up and managed a fast finish over the line, with a smile.
My finish time was 3:24:33. It is a fantastic event and very emotional, as well as hard work. Well worthwhile thanks to your kind contributions Thanks to everyone. Recovery is the order of the day now
Cheers
Ian
