London to Paris Cycle Ride · 10 September 2008 ·

The number of patients with diabetes is growing dramatically. The Stephanie Marks Appeal is raising awareness of the condition within the catchment area of 450,000 people served by Ashford & St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust. £800k is needed to build a dedicated Diabetes Resource Centre to provide treatment, education and research facilities. Planning permission has just been approved (June 2008) www.stephaniemarks.org.uk for further information.

Ride Update

12:44 Friday 12th September
I am back in the land of the long grey clouds. Slightly sore and the better for some rest. Now my part is done and it is over to you. Please do consider donating to this project. Diabetes wrecks havoc and this centre will help many many people to be treated and helped if we can raise enough funds. You can read more at the Stephanie Marks Appeal website and there is an article in this week's Surrey Herald as well. Thank you very much for your support. Ian Lynch

17:00 Saturday 6th September
Success, after cycling over 70 miles today we have reached our destination, the Arc de Triomphe.  Here I am fourth from the left, smiling as I have just come second in the sprint to the finish.
After three days, one of which was in the rain and the wind, steep hills, Paris road tunnels (cycled through navigational error) we had arrived, complete with our Ian Botham cricket bats that had come with us from Chertsey.
Thanks for all of you who continue to sponsor my cycle ride to help launch the new diabetic centre to help those in need. http://www.stephaniemarks.info/press65.htm

16:00 Friday 5th September
Well we made it to France and to our destination tonight of Rouen.
Last night the boat ride was not a comfortable sleep so not much was had, making today a little bit more difficult.
Tomorrow will be the longest day, but will be worth to be in Paris!

13:00 Thursday 4th September
So far we have riden 20 miles to just south of Aldershot and we are just about to stop for lunch.
The day started with a send off from Sir Ian Botham.  We are carry one of his cricket bats all the way to Paris with the details of the fundraising.

My name is Ian Lynch and I work for the Happiness Project based in Chertsey.  I am doing this ride as part of The Crown Chertsey's efforts to support this appeal.
