About my charity : Emmaus Emmaus
Emmaus tackles the problems of homelessness through a network of self-supporting Communities, where people are offered a home, work and a sense of belonging. Emmaus residents (or "Companions" as they are known), each have a room of their own and work together, refurbishing and selling donated goods. Each Emmaus Community aims to become self-sufficient through raising income in this way. In an atmosphere of practical support, Companions have an opportunity to gain new skills and regain their self-respect while working to support other people in greater need. Emmaus UK is the national charity which supports existing Communities and assists the network of Groups which are working to develop new projects.

My personal message:

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Emmaus will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

During 2008 Emmaus are planning to create a new Community in Salford, an area I have been involved with for many years, largely due to my involvement through 34 years of Community Action whilst a member of staff at Manchester Grammar School.  All the money raised from this walk will go to this project.

For a very long time this particular long-distance walk has been a cherished dream, which I am now able to undertake.  I retired recently and now have the time and opportunity to take on this challenge before my legs seize up.

My walk started on April 1st and I finished on 2nd June after exactly 9 weeks on the road a day ahead of schedule and without having a full day of rain surely some sort of record! We celebrated with a cream tea after all that austerity. Incidentally I lost a stone in weight - no bad thing.

On behalf of Emmaus, thank you to all those who have sponsored me.

Ian
