Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. See my training update at the end of this page and pledge of support from Peter Clarke. Last updated 14th April 2008

I have started my training for the London Marathon which takes place next April and I hope that you will be able to help and support me.

Little Havens is a really worthy cause and it desperately needs our help in continuing it's brilliant work in providing care for terminally ill children and respite care for their families. Little Havens is a childrnen's hospice that needs huge funding year on year with little or no direct government assistance to help them continue to provide such wonderful care to the children and families that stay in the hospice.

I hope to be able to reach my target sum and perhaps even beyond that so please donate on line or e-mail me to make a pledge if you would prefer to pay by another means.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Little Havens Children's Hospice will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support.

Ian

Training Update - I am now running 40 miles plus per week and have now managed my longest run to date - 18 miles! Hard work!

I have now completed 5 or 6 20 mile runs so well on the way to being ready (or as ready as I can be!) - they don't get any easier!!!

There are 3 months to go and the training is going well - I am running in excess of 50 miles a week and counting down the days to the 13th of April.

I have now have about a month to go and last Sunday I did the Brentwood half marathon. This was my first race and I really enjoyed it.I have about another 4 long runs planned before the big day and then I will taper it down in the least 14 plus days before race day. I have a training day with Little Havens on Sunday which I am looking forward to as well. Thank you to everyone for their support and fingers crossed now for the big day.

I now have just over a week go and cannot wait to get to the start line. I am trained to the eyeballs - I did a 26 mile run yesterday because I could not rest until I had done the distance. This running is very addictive!! I have done all I can for the distance now and I will begin to taper down and then rest 4 days before hand save for a couple of warm up runs - 30 minutes each. I think I have done enough but only time will tell -wish me luck and good luck to everyone who is running for Havens Hospices.

My last update before the big day. A huge thank you to everyone who has taken the time and trouble to sponsor me - everyone has been really generous so thank you. If you would still like to sponsor me it is not to late!!! Wish me luck next week and thank you to everyone once again for your support.

My last update for this year!!

I ran the marathon yesterday and recorded a time of 3 hours and 48 minutes so not a bad first run. It was a fantastic experience and I have already applied for next years race.

It is a unique experience to run the London and I am keen to run again next year and and see if I can record a faster time. The crowds are amazing and if you cannot be inspired by the thousdands of people all running for fantastic causes then you cannot be inspired!!!

It has been a hard training schedule but having got there the training really paid off in the end and I avoided the dreaded "wall" (see "Run Fat Boy Run" for the best definition of the wall!!)

Thank you to everyone who has supported me - I think the total fund should reach £3500 which will be brilliant. Your generosity and kindness makes it all worth while in the end.

Thank you to Stevie A for all his help with fund raising and being there on the day.

A huge thank you to Judy and her colleagues at Havens who have been fantastic in organisning events leading up the the Marathon including pasta lunches and training runs.

My biggest thanks and all my love to Sam who has put up with all my training and preparations and who has run with me many times on the long road to the London Marathon.

and now...back to training. I have the London 10K in a few weeks and the Southend Half in June. No rest for the wicked!

A big thank you to Peter Clarke of Southend United FC for his best wishes for my training and the big day.
