Along with others from the private equity industry, I recently trekked through the Simian Mountains in Ethiopia as part of an effort to raise money to build a secondary school for 800 children.  Education is important in itself of course, but it will also help foster development in an area where life has remained unchanged for centuries and is still based around subsistence farming.  Our group is working with Enable Ethiopia and a charitable foundation, A Glimmer of Hope, which has agreed to match any donations.  Hence, anything you give will be doubly effective.  During the trek, we had the opportunity to visit the site and building is well underway.  Opening is scheduled for September.
