Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
Well, what an incredible experience!
My quads have never hurt so much in all my life but I made it through the 26.2miles (or 42km as the French prefer to call it) without stopping. The body wanted to stop but the mind wouldn't let it. It was all down to those of you who contributed to my fund raising and offered me support and encouragement. I felt I couln't let you down. After the race the sight of me trying to get down the steps to the metro at the Champs Elyses was laughable. The only consolation was that there were another 20,000 or so other runners who were in exactly the same state as me! Despite the pain I wouldn't have missed the experience for the world. The genorosity of the Great Briitsh Public, and especially the Great Herefordhsire Public was just fantastic. It is too easy to get a blinkered view of today's society and think that doom, gloom and misery is the norm however that is simply not the case. The majority of people out there are genuinely good people through and through. My justgiving site represents just a small fraction of what I have raised so far during my marathon challenge. As at mid-Apr the grand total is £2,500, all of which will be put to excellant use by Macmillan Cancer Support, for whom I undertook the event. THANK YOU.

On the 5th April 2009 I shall be attempting to complete the Paris marathon in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. As a marathon virgin this is probably the greatest challenge I have faced but, with your support I am determined to complete the whole 26.2 miles.
With improvements in screening, diagnosis and treatment, more and more people are being diagnosed earlier and living with cancer for longer. They're often spending less time in hospital and more time at home. Cancer is becoming a part of more and more people's daily lives. Macmillan aims to be there for everyone who needs their help, from the moment of diagnosis onwards, and with your help we can achieve this aim.
In Jan 2008 I was hospitalised with pneumonia and a collapsed lung. I spent 10 days in isolation due to the norovirus shutting the hospital to all visitors. Those 10 days seemed like a lifetime. Thankfully I made a full recovery which I attribute in the most part from the love and support given by my family.
Others aren't so lucky. The illness which afflicts them is more serious and there is often no family around with which to share the burden. For these people there is ALWAYS Macmillan. Every pound that you give in support of my marathon challenge is a pound well spent.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Macmillan Cancer Support gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
