WaterAid is an international not-for-profit, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation. Only by tackling these three essentials in ways that last can people change their lives for good.

Story

Friends, Families and Colleagues,

Thank you all for your generous support to WaterAid, which totalled to £795.  The Weather Goddess was also supportive.  The team (Javier Arellano, Noemi de la Fuente, Anuradha Joshi, Mick Moore, Adam Randon) camped out on the night of the 11th June in the Tigh-na-sleubaich area of the Western Highlands and then walked up to the peak of Stob Ban (3000+ feet) carrying full camping gear on 12th.  We really missed Suvojit, who was unable to get a visa to come to the UK from Ghana and join us.

Among our sponsors, special thanks also to Sir Hugh Munro, who appears to be dead - at least, there is no sign of him on Facebook - and to that famous recluse, Troilus Slackwind, who got the ball rolling with the first donation.

There are 20 Limericks below, as promised. We are aware that a few late sponsors did not receive their promised limerick.  The onset of RLS (Repetitive Limerick Strain) was beginning to affect the quality of our product, and a complete rest was advised.

Abel Bove was able to negotiate a special deal.  It did not turn out quite right: the video of me singing on top of Stob Ban has become one of me dancing on a lake on Stob Ban.  It is available to special subscribers.

Thanks again for all your support!!!

The idswalkers

From Bilbao there emerged a young maid
With a mission to boost Water Aid
In recruiting old men she's inventive
But they now need financial incentive
The question is: Have you yet paid?

The idswalkers' next challenge: the Stob Ban, 999m (3277 ft), in Scotland, on the 12th June, supporting WaterAid.

A new limerick will be posted for everyone donating £20 or more! (please click on 'read more')

Oh Slackwind, you wonderful chappie
More generous far than your pappy.
From this great donation
We take inspiration
And declare ourselves totally happy

The prospect of Josh on Stob Ban
Is hard to believe - but you can.
She will puff, she will pain.
She is sure to complain
But she'll sprint to the top like a man

Kian, we salute your support
Exceeding the sum that we sought.
Since I function best as our Talker
Kenton is your Special Walker.
We’re sure he’ll make every effort

It is tempting to pun upon 'Moore',
But I find that a terrible bore.
Thanks to Rob for assistance
To walk this great distance.
Our performance will be without flaw

The mention of one of our cadre
Made fundraising very much harder.
For Arnab's convinced she used cunning
In failing to sponsor his running.
Her name is Ms Anuradha.

Ms Bano, you speak at a speed
That is far in excess of all need.
Renowned among Talkers
Now revered by our Walkers
You truly have done a great deed

The problem with writing for 'Schmitz'
Is it rhymes most directly with t...s.
So instead we thank Hubert
Who rhymes best with Schubert
And that word most jolly well fits

Say Harriss, and some think of tweed
But this John's a sponsor indeed
Far out in Vancouver
A shaker and mover
And donor in time of our need

Limerick enclosed with Tara's donation:
Your enterprise opens my purse
And prompts me to break into verse
Anonymity's fine
I shall not pine
A cheque will be yours in due course

I'm so grateful to new donor Jing
For that rhymes with almost anything
With support now from China
We feel so much finer
Her praises we endlessly sing

When Stob Ban is killing our knees
And we're eaten alive by the fleas
When the rucksacks are weighing a ton
And we're frying out there in the sun
We'll give thanks to kind Banerjees

On the peak on the 12th day of June
We'll be thinking of Great Sponsor Eun
Although out in Korea
You seem very near
And we hope we can meet again soon

For development he has a fine plan
Which is why he is known as Taxman.
In Bergen they call him Odd-Helge
Which rhymes (very close) with our Elgar
He'll just be 'our God' on Stob Ban

We really must ask of Sir Hugh
Who in this wide, wide world are you?
Before we ascend our Munros
We’d be happy to say our 'hellos’'
And get blessings for what we must do

A friend who is female in gender
Tough body, but heart very tender.
She does biking and running
And looks mighty stunning
She's generous too, is our Brenda

Welcome to Ms Amy Brown
Known as Madge in some parts of town.
This is from your Mabel
Who hopes she is able
To walk up as well as sink down.

Kind Ronni, our friend from New York
You are willing to sponsor our walk.
While we trudge up to our spot
You will party at Ascot.
Please keep us your best champagne cork.

Our great sponsor and friend, one Abel
Has put down a condition from Hell.
And Mick now has vowed,
When high up in the cloud
To sing high and clear as a bell

One can choose how to rhyme Ms Brittain
Avoiding suggestions of 'pain'.
Instead we thank Julie
Without mention of 'cruelly'.
She has proved a true friend once again.

Jane left us in Brighton for Cupar
It seems that up there all is super.
Phoebe says there are hippos in Scotland
Can we have some to join in with our band?
Hippo sherpas would be super-dooper.
