A little over 12 months ago, my son - Joseph - was born 6 weeks prematurely.

You can see from the photo's he's doing fantastically well now but he had a very difficult start.

As he was an early arrival, his lungs hadn't developed properly & he spent a worrying couple of weeks in the most fantastic of care environments - Warwick Special Care Baby Unit.

A little over 9 months ago, I started mulling over ideas on how I could raise a significant amount of money for the Unit & go some way to repaying the enormous debt that my wife, Joseph & I owe them. It was at that point that one of my oldest friends suggested going for a walk. A hilly walk.

So, on September 30th, I and 8 other intrepid souls leave the UK for Kathmandu & embark on a 21 day trek to Everest Base Camp - at a trifling 5545 metres (18,192ft) & then a final climb to the Summit of Imja Tse (Island Peak). All 6187 metres (20,305ft) of it. With crampons & everything!

I'd like to ask you to sponsor me and anyone else on the team that takes your fancy for as much or as little as you're able. This whole trip is self funded so every penny you can spare will go where it's most needed - directly to the unit that did such an amazing job of looking after my little boy.

In return for your good deed, you get to rest easy in the the comforting knowledge that you won't be joining a fat lad (me) at the top of the world combating; altititude sickness, 9 people on a 3 week lentil based diet, my childish sense of humour, yeti, yaks, frostbite & finding someway of peeing whilst it's -20 outside & you're in your sleeping bag.
