Story

                                                                          بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Update:20/05/10   Assalamu Alaikum, Peace be upon you all

Dear Donors,

The grass has grown, the Mafians have arrived and I’m very pleased to tell you that Marwah’s well is now up and running, alhamdulilah. Please see new photos to your left…

The well has been functioning for over 3 months. It took longer than anticipated for the photos to be taken owing to the wait for other wells to be completed before a photographer was commissioned.  Amongst other projects, the building of Marwah’s well is featured in an Islam Channel documentary ‘Mission to Mafia’, please see link below for coverage:

May the well be a source of continuing charity (Sadaqah Jariah) for Marwah and yourself and may the water be safe and blessed for the people of Mafia. Ameen

We pray that Marwah will be raised amongst the best of humanity on the Day of Judgment and that she is granted the Kingdom of Heaven without reckoning. Ameen. Please let’s continue to remember Marwah and all dearly departed souls in our prayers.

Thank you once again for your incredible generosity, may God reward you amply and many thanks to Islamic Help whose exemplary professionalism throughout this project will not be forgotten.

Barak Allah fe’kum (God bless you) and Rahim Allah ruh Marwah (may God have mercy over Marwah’s soul).

Update: 04/01/10    Assalamu Alaikum, Peace be upon you all

Great progress to report to you donor. By God's grace and with His help, the majority of the work for this well was completed over the Christmas period, alhamdulilah.

Kirongwe, Mafia Island

The well is located in Kirongwe, to the centre of Mafia island, please find link to map below:

To your left are pictures showing progress on the well so far. Further photos of the finished article will be posted once available from Islamic Help so do re-visit for a final update, in a matter of weeks insha'Allah...

Update: 21/10/09    Assalamu Alaikum, Peace be upon you all

Delighted to report to you that by the grace of God, all funds have been secured, alhamdulilah. Your generosity has been heart-warming so thank you once again to you the donors who have helped complete the first phase of this project.  Barak Allah fe'kum, may God bless you.

Phase II

Islamic Help are currently on the ground in Mafia island sourcing contractors for the building of wells, due to take place over the Christmas period. Once built, Islamic Help have promised to send pictures of the well to be built in Marwah's name (Allah yirhamha, may God have mercy over her soul). I will post these on this page once received, around the new year insha'Allah. The map to your left will give you an idea of the delicate nature of this operation. Most of the equipment required to build the well will need to be transported from Dar es Salaam to Mafia island, not an easy feat.

Let's pray that God-willing, phase II is as smooth as Phase I. I hope to have great news for you in the new year insha'Allah so until then, best wishes...

Update: Assalamu Alaikum, Peace be upon you all

Firstly, many thanks to you the donors, both known and anonymous, we're 71% there and your generosity thus far has been simply astounding, alhamdulillah. May God reward you and increase your bounty:

'Those who spend their wealth in God's cause are like grains of corn that produce seven ears, each bearing a hundred grains. God gives multiple increase to whoever He wishes. He is limitless and all knowing.' Quran 2:261

Some have queried whether sadaqah jariah can be given on behalf of someone who has passed away: 'Anas reported that Sa’d once came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: “O God’s Prophet! My mother died without leaving a will, is there any benefit for her if I gave sadaqah (charity) on her behalf ? The Prophet answered ''Yes, I advise you to give the Sadaqah through water.” Hadith, reported by Al-Tabarani'

Going forward, please, if you haven't done so already, forward this link to your contacts and generally, spread the word...  Many thanks.
....

Assalamu Alaikum, Peace be upon you all

This page has been set up in memory of Marwah Orabi who passed away on the first day of Ramadan, , aged 22 years. She was taken in the best of months, in days known as the ‘days of mercy’, may Allah (God) have mercy over her soul and may she be admitted, by the mercy of the Most Merciful, into the gardens of paradise alongside her family. Ameen. Please remember Marwah in your prayers.

Sadaqah Jariah: A Sadaqah Jariah (ongoing charity) project has been set up with the intention of benefiting Marwah’s soul, insha’Allah (God-willing). The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“When a person dies, all his actions come to an end except three matters which he leaves behind: continuous charity; knowledge from which benefit could be derived; righteous offspring who pray for him.”

Sadaqah Jariah can be set up on behalf of someone who has passed away. As such, a water well project has been initiated with the intention of benefiting both Marwah and the users of the well. The provision of clean water is one of the best forms of continuous charity. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

Islamic Help further found that most of the water wells and storage reservations presently on the island are open tanked and are therefore very often infected by dead animals or contaminated by use of infectious people. It is proposed that this well project will include a hand-pump facility, thus avoiding the above problems.

Cost and timing: The cited cost of the proposed well is £4500. Building wells in this region is more expensive than other locations, largely due to its extreme location and the fact that it is more difficult to dig for water on an island (main problem being salt water).

It is intended that once funds are secured insha'Allah, this well will be built over the Christmas period. Any surplus cash will go towards building another or indeed, other wells with a similar intent.

May Al-Karim (The Most Generous) reward your generosity and may this project be one that benefits Marwah. Ameen.
