Royal Parks Half Marathon 2009 · 11 October 2009 ·

Wisdom Hospice Charity supports the work of the only adult hospice serving Medway and Swale in Kent. It makes an annual grant to Medway Community Healthcare of £600,000 towards hospice running costs. In addition it provides extra equipment and facilities that fall outside the MCH budget.

Story

On Sunday 11th October I will be taking part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon for the second year - couldn't face doing a full on marathon so decided to do it as two halves!!

Last year the run took place just after we found out that my Dad, Peter, was suffering from lung cancer and he was so proud of my first ever successful run. This year, however, he is no longer with us although I know for a fact that in his way he'll be with me every step of the 13.1 miles.

This year I will be running to raise much needed funds for the wonderful team at the Wisdom Hospice in Rochester, who supported dad through his illness and to this day offer outstanding support to my mum. Like all such organisations the vast majority of their funds are collected through charitable donations but without the support they receive it would be impossible for them to provide the level of support to those in most need.

Now I know that many of you will have supported me in last year's run, where I raised over £2500 for The Royal Marsden and the BUPA 10K in May where I raised nearly £2900 for the Wisdom but I would ask you once again to dig deep and help me to raise much needed cash to help those who were so supportive to my Dad. He was a wonderful unselfish man who always put others first so it is most fitting that I try and do my bit for others in his memory.

Finally, it would great to see as many of you as can make it on the day. The event is wonderfully run and the Brakes food and fitness village in the park is a great day out for all the family.

Thanks in advance for your support

Be lucky!
