On May 12, 2008, a 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck the Sichuan province of China, taking more than 19,500 lives and more than 25,000 people are still trapped beneath the collapsed buildings. Officials say about 10 million people have been affected by the quake. Many are in refugee camps, without proper shelter, food or clean water. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has issued an emergency appeal for medical help, food, water and tents. Informa will be matching donations made via this site to the British Red Cross up to £10,000 .
