Age Concern Calderdale & Kirklees promotes the well-being of older people in Calderdale and Kirklees (age 50+) by providing good quality services and support, influencing policy and practice, consulting older people and finding innovative ways of meeting their needs and working in partnership with other local agencies to better serve older people within the community

Story

Age Concern Calderdale is an independent local charity and provides free and confidential information and advice to older people in the Calderdale region.  We provide information, advice and assistance in many matters including welfare benefits, community care issues, housing, heating grants, money matters, local services and much more.  We offer home visits to those very vulnerable and frail older people to help fill in welfare benefit forms and help to ensure that they are claiming full entitlements to disability, housing, council tax benefits as well as pension credits, heating allowances etc.

Our services are offered free of charge - however, we are in need of funding to keep our Information and Advice Drop-In Centre open.  The Centre handles around 5,000 queries per annum and last year we helped people in Calderdale to claim almost £600,000 in previously unclaimed benefits.  However, we are struggling to meet running costs such as rent, utilities and specialist staffing costs.

All donations will be welcomed - no matter how small -  and will help us to continue with this much needed service.

You can either donate here or send your donation to Age Concern Calderdale, Information and Advice Centre, 29 Union Street, Halifax, HX1 1PR.  For more information  on Age Concern Calderdale's services you can telephone on 01422 399830 or check out our website at  http://ageconcerncalderdale.org.uk

We also seek volunteers for our centre and other services within Age Concern Calderdale such as befriending, day care, craft groups, lunch clubs so if you know anyone who may wish to volunteer then please contact us.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Age Concern Calderdale gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please donate now and help us to maintain our much needed services for our local community

Age Concern has launched a campaign - the Price of No Advice - to highlight the disastrous impact of cuts in the funding of information and advice services.  These vital services provide trusted, independent help to thousands of older people, especially those on low incomes or in poor health, to claim the money they need to meet their living costs.  Please visit http://ageconcern.org.uk/AgeConcern/campaigns.asp and add your voice in support of our campaign.
