Story
This page has been created by The Encephalitis Society for people who would like to make a donation to the Society in memory of a loved one.
Encephalitis does not just affect an individual, it affects the whole family and sadly fatality remains high; three times higher than in meningitis. Each year an estimated 4,000 people will develop Encephalitis and up to 30% will not survive even with treatment.
Support for people affected and their families is needed at different stages and is either unavailable from other sources, inappropriate or insufficient. During 2012 the Society reached out to over 500 new contacts.
Our experienced staff help guide families through the shock and worry brought on during the initial stages of the illness. These traumatic times can often bring feelings of guilt, frustration and anger.
Through The Society families can access a support network for on-going mutual support. Just talking to someone else who understands, through shared experience, can offer an alternative to professional counselling.
All donations made on this page are used to forward The Encephalitis Society's ongoing work to improve the quality of life for all people affected directly or indirectly by Encephalitis and to continue improvement in early diagnosis and appropriate treatment of the condition.
You can find out more about our work by visiting our website here It is free to become a Member of The Society, and as well as demonstrating your support for our work, it brings many personal benefits. Join here today.
When making the donation please provide the name of the person in whose memory you are donating in the comment line.
Sincere thanks,
The Encephalitis Society Team
