Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
This page is created in the memory of Pat Salter who passed away on 27 January 2010 at the age of 76.
To those who knew our mum/sister Pat as family, friend or through her Baha’i faith, they will know that throughout her life she of herself gave tirelessly in support of others, without complaint or thought of her own well being. As one of her friends has just told me “Pat was a giver”. That is an entirely accurate summary of our mum/sister.Even to the end she thought of others rather than herself. Only last week she was so gravely ill but we attended Worthing Hospital for a consultant visit. Even though we and she had long known there was no hope of recovery, she insisted on going (frankly in her condition it was a trip too far in my view) but she insisted on going only so she could say “thanks and goodbye to my girls” (the breast care team nurses in the oncology department). Whilst waiting for the appointment she looked around the busy oncology waiting room at the other ladies there and she became very emotional and whispered to me “look at them all - they are so worried”. I had to agree it was very tense place. She then said “it’s the waiting for the results, it takes so long, they are so worried and it’s not just them, their families must be terrified too”.
When we were looking at a suitable charity for donations instead of flowers, we had no idea that the Friends of Worthing Hospital had launched an appeal for a second CT Scanner. Given Pat’s sentiments in her last visit there this seems an entirely appropriate cause to support and of which she would have approved. If we can help the earlier diagnosis or hopefully ruling out of dreadful diseases so that people have time for treatment or get peace of mind then we would be most grateful for a donation instead of flowers in memory of Pat.
Our other nominated charity is Help for Heroes. Please feel free to support our brave soldiers wounded in the line of duty for a war of unclear objectives. We have not set up a just giving website page for these donations so please send any cheques to the funeral director (details as below).
Best Regards and many thanks for your support and donations.
