Thanks for doing something uniquely special on September 21st - the International Day of Peace.

In Africa and Asia, heroic people are working to build peace, for themselves and for their communities. They've experienced war, genocide and rape. Because of the way the world is, compared to us they've often got little food, little clean water, poor sanitation and rarely any electricity. But they do have a huge amount of talent and willpower!

These heroes and heroines are committed, hardworking, resourceful, inspiring and succeeding in slowly realising their dreams of peace. Today, thanks to the help of CORD's staff and partners, each of these heroes will be    

- spending several hours teaching in school

- setting up or expanding a small business

- improving their management skills 

- learning how to better run their organisation

- building a new home

- playing sport

- building a toilet so they don't have to use the fields,and

- learning what they can do to reduce the spread of HIV and AIDS

Often they'll be doing this with people who were once their enemy.

You can help them too.  By giving one hour's worth of your annual income you'll be helping to build peace. To calculate what this amount is divide your annual income by 52 (the numer of weeks in a year) and then divide that numer by 35 (the average number of hours worked each week). If your income is £20,000, one hour is just £13.73.
