Once again the people of Instant offices are getting into the fancy dress and about small boats on the Grand Union Canal to race up and down and raise money for charity,
This year we are racing in aid of Avenues Youth Project- an great charity that supports people in our local area.
• The Avenues Youth Project was established in 1979. It is based in the Queen's Park ward of Westminster, one of the most deprived areas of London.
• Unemployment rates are high (40%+ for young black men) and educational achievement is well below the national average.
• The Avenues offers an alternative to social exclusion for young people in the area.
• The Avenues Youth Project is open to anyone between the ages of 11 and 23. Over half of the users are in the core age range of 13 to 18 and over 90% are black.
• The Avenues Youth Project aims to assist young people to develop their self esteem, enhance their employment opportunities, challenge their attitudes and, of course, to offer opportunities for enjoyment.
• The youth work staff work with members as individuals in order to ensure that appropriate support, training and care to is available to address their needs.
