Story

I'm lucky enough to have won a competiton to celebrate the WWF's Earth Hour.

Earth Hour happens on 26th March at 8.30pm and involves thousands of people switching off non essential light for an hour.   Last year Big Ben, the Empire State Building and the Sydney opera house all switched off to show their support, as well as an estimated 50 million people in 128 countries.

Earth Hour's aim is to raise public awareness about climate change and about how we use and produce energy.

My idea was to create a peice of art in the dark,  throwing paint against a giant canvas with a few friends, to show you can still do something fun and creative without lights.  The colours we'll use will be based on the amount that colour appears on the earth, meaning that it will consist mostly of blues, then green, white and the rest of the colours that we see on birds, plants and people.   It will be a picture of the Earth, made in the dark during Earth Hour.

I'm aiming to raise as much money as possible so I can help this amazing organisation campaign to reduce climate change.  If you can't afford to donate,  that's okay because the real point of earth hour is to  help people learn a bit about how to reduce your carbon footprint.   You'll all be interested in this because it can save you a lot of money - everybody wins! That's not all the WWF do though..they also fight to save species and habitats from destruction.  The moral implications of driving a species to extinction aside; some of those species are really cute and have even cuter babies.   The not so cute ones are more often than not facinating creatures so in my opinon they are ALL in definite need of our help.  About 70% of the WWF's income is from donations so they really do need support!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
