IOW walk 08 · 3 June 2008

Charcot-Marie-Tooth UK (formerly CMT United Kingdom) is the national support group for people affected by Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease, aka Hereditary Motor and Sensory Neuropathy. We provide advice, support and information for people with the condition, family, carers and medical professionals.

Story

It was always going to be a difficult decision....how on earth do you follow the 3 Peak Challenge? Anyone who knows us will realise how much fun we had last year climbing Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Snowdon in erm... near enough 24 hours!

It was both equally inspirational and knackering....and quite spiritual in many ways (especially when we were sat in the bar in the shadow of Ben Nevis).

After much discussion about whose 'round' it was next, we decided one thing was essential for our next challenge....no hills of any description!

So some bright spark came up with the idea about walking around the Isle of Wright. Searching the walk on the internet I was met with lots of tales about how pleasant the walk is to over the course of 4-5 days.....but where's the fun in that?

We like to push ourselves a little so we are doing the walk over the course of a weekend.  Sixty seven miles in a walking time of 24 hours; now I was never very good at maths but that equates to at least 33 miles a day!!.....thankfully we have a team of stout hearted men who laugh in the face of a challenge!

Last year we managed to raise £6k for the CMT, a fantastic amount and we would like to give a huge thank you to anyone who sponsored us. This fundraising paid for an activity weekend for a number of children who suffer from the condition, and who rarely get the chance to experience the sort of activities that were laid on for them.

Once again our aim is to raise as much money as possible for the CMT and do have a peek at the attached link, where you will be able to find out about the condition, and what great work the charity does.

So, please take pity on 11 middle aged blokes who go by the names of  Paul, Alex, Frank, Graham, John, Mark, Tom, Nick, another Graham, Jeff and Phil (who will be carrying all of our equipment around with him…he just doesn’t know it yet!)

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page and any messages of support or general abuse will be gratefully received!

Now the legal bit.....Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: CMT United Kingdom gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor us now!
