My story

Hi guys and girls,

Well as you can see the three of us have decided to take the plunge, squeeze into tight speedo's, rub the goose fat in and swim across the English Channel, dodging ferries, tankers, sewage and the odd shark and all for what we believe to be a very worthy charity.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of our Uncle Mark’s death. He was 50. He died from pancreatic cancer, a disease that affects countless thousands each year, yet still is a relatively unknown form of cancer. We are aiming to raise £2000 for the Pancreatic Cancer Charity.

The swim will be in a relay format, each swimming for an hour before the next jumps in and takes over. We are training hard, and there will no doubt be sacrifices (no more booze, no more lie in's), but it will be worth it if we can raise the money for Pancreatic Cancer UK. Only 7 teams of 3 people have ever completed the swim across the channel, with the fastest taking a little over 11 hours. We are aiming more for 15 hours, and while that equates to only 5 hours each in the water, this will still not be an easy ask as we try and stay as close to the support boat as possible, swim in a straight line, and not get scared as we get perilously close to tankers that take 3 miles to stop!

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Pancreatic Cancer UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. Please give what you can/want/feel its worth and Adam, Chris and I will try and do our part by making it over to Frogville in one piece in August (August 14-17th are the dates we have booked for the swim)

So please sponsor us now!

Congratulations!! Adam, David & Chris on a fantastic achievement. Well done from us all. 8-) Donation by Paul, Sylvia & Gemma (Newmarket Swimming Club) 23/10/09
