Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page....now that you're here I hope you will take a couple of minutes to read a little bit about Dreamflight, the fantastic charity I am hoping to raise money to support. (PLEASE CLICK 'READ MORE' FOR FULL INFO)
Once a year, Dreamflight take 192 deserving seriously ill or disabled children from all over the UK, accompanied by a team of medical carers, on a chartered Boeing 747 to Orlando, Florida where they spend 10 magical days of fun and excitement. Many children could not undertake such a trip without the support of the army of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and non-medical volunteers who care for the children 24 hours a day.
Dreamflight is not just a holiday. The children leave their families behind giving them an opportunity to discover independence, confidence, and a whole new outlook on life. Often for the first time, these children realise that they are not alone, and they are not the odd one out. They see children around them who have also suffered, they gain perspective, and experience things they never thought possible.
So, you may wonder what it is that I consider to be worthy of your valuable donation in support of this superb charity? The first requirement was that the challenge needed to be greater than the last one...over the past few years I have gone from walking over hot coals, to the Three Peaks Challenge, to Coast to Coast Adventure racing...can it get more difficult??
...In a word..yes!!
An Ironman is an ultra-endurance triathlon, starting with a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile road cycle and finally finishing with a 26.2 mile run. The challenge is to complete all three of these distances continuously and within 17 hours...that's a grand total of 140.6 'leg' miles! Here lies the problem(s)
-it is now February and I have not yet completed a single one of those distances in it's own right
-I can only swim one length of a pool in front crawl, the preferred swim style (2.4 miles is approx 160 lengths)
-finally, I have never actually competed in a triathlon before!!
So, a picture should now be beginning to form...this will be quite an achievement if I can pull it off. I'm hoping I have convinced you that this is worthy of your hard earned cash.
So please dig deep and donate now...little did you know, but your arms have been getting longer as you have read this page and those pockets have got much shorter!! Please be generous, I can guarantee that your money will be very well spent!!
Thank you thank you thank you for your support...it is HUGELY appreciated!
Emski ;)
