WE ARE IRON ABS!!!!

DARLO

SMALLSTER

SHOOTER

RUTGER

MILLSY

During 2009 and into 2010 we have decided to enter a number of events, marathons, triathlons, bike rides, open water swimming and the mighty Toughguy event.

Some of the events we are taking part as a team, some on an individual basis but thoughout the year we would like to take this opportunity to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support. Our first event is the Paris marathon on Sunday 5th April and the events come thick and (always) fast until the Toughguy Challenge on 31st January 2010. A list of the events are as follows:

05/04/2009 Paris Marathon (26 miles) - DONE - Yes Rutter and myself pounded the streets of Paris into submission on Sunday recording times of 4hours 4mins (Me) & 4hours 58mins (Rutter)

19/04/2009 Oulton Park Duathlon (4.3k run, 25.8k bike ride, 4.3k run) - DONE - I (Darlo) completed the duathlon in a time of 1h 25m finishing 30th overall and 9th in my age category - 5 - 10 yr olds!!! Only joking i was in the 35 - 39 year olds - yeah really!!!! Next stop Scotland and the Etape, where the Smallster makes his Iron ABS debut

17/05/2009 Etape Caledonia (130k bike ride) - DONE - Despite the best (or sligtly pathetic yet highly dangerous) efforts of some pshyco locals, Dan & Simon D completed the 130k Etape Caledonia on Sunday. The times are somewhat irrelevant due to the "Tack-Attack" protest which held up the race for 1h 30mins and punctured Dan's rear tyre towards the summit of the the big climb of the day. Simon was one of the lucky ones and managed to avoid the tacks somehow. Even with the so-called "protest" a great weekend was had. Next up its the one you've all been waiting for Team Iron ABS all together for the Cheshire Triathlon in 2 weeks time!!!

31/05/2009 Cheshire Sprint Triathlon (500m swim, 20k bike ride, 5k run) - DONE - Despite being ripped asunder by the withdrawl of Shooter due to medical advice from both his doctor and physio, Iron ABS formed as a trio and took the 2009 Cheshire Triathlon by storm. Darlo finished 45th in a time of 1h 7m 27s, Rutter finished 407th in a time of 1h 28m 21s & Dan finished 436th in a time of 1h 30m 45s. From a feild of 1,200 competitors and each of us competing in our first triathlon these results are nothing short of amazing firmly establishing Iron ABS as a forced to be reckoned with in the world of triathlon. Next up Darlo goes alone again in the Northwich Tri....

07/06/2009 Northwich Sprint Tiathlon (400m swim, 17.8k bike ride, 5k run) - DONE - There is a certain spirit in this Iron ABS team like no other and rather than leave Darlo to run this event by himself Rutter signed up at the last minute taking Iron ABS to their 2nd triathlon. It was another storming success (apart from Darlo's bike but the less said about that the better) Darlo finished 13th overall 4th in his age group (35 - 39) and 2nd in the Novice category with a time of 1h 1min 24s. Rutter finished 91st overall, 8th in his age group (25 - 29) and 32nd in the Novice Category with a time of 1h 18min 19s. Two weeks to wait till the next one which sees Darlo take on the first Open Water Swim Triathlon...

A quick mention for the newly formed Iron ABS Juniors - Luke Darlington (Darlo's Son) completed the Rother Valley Kids Triathlon on Sat 6th June which consisted of a 50m lake swim, 3k bike ride & a 1,500m run - WELL DONE LUKE, I'm so proud of you...

21/06/2009 Liverpool Triathlon (750m swim, 20k bike ride, 5k run) - This was the first ever Liverpool Triathlon and Iron ABS had a presence there in the form of Darlo, who completed the sprint in 1h 13min 46sec, finishing 7th overall in the sprint event and 2nd in his age group, another good performance, setting him up for his trip down to Eton in 3 weeks for Bananaman...

12/07/2009 Bananaman Triathlon (800m swim, 20k bike ride, 5k run) - DONE - Another solo tri from Darlo. He nailed the slightly longer distance sprint in 1h 40m 29s finishing 28th overall and 6th in his age group. Next up the Moonraker 10k followed by a step up to Olympic distance triathlon in London...

26/07/2009 Moonraker (10k run) - DONE - A soggy day in Manchester saw Darlo running around Bowlee Country Park the the Moonraker 10k posting a PB time of 39m 49s, next week he's heading down to the Big Smoke for an Olympic challenge...

02/08/2009 London Triathlon (1,500m swim, 40k bike ride, 10k run) - DONE - Darlo made the journey down to London at weekend for the Olympic Triathlon. Completing it in 2h 19m 37s - 12 mins slower than Jenson Button, up next Darlo takes his first step to Ironman glory...

29/08/2009 The Little Woody 70.3 (1,900m swim, 90k bike ride 21.1krun) - DONE - The first step to becoming an Ironman has been taken, Darlo is officially a man (half an Ironman - gettit). The gruelling course was completed in 6h 16m 33s.

06/09/2009 Manchester 100k Bike Ride - DONE - Millsy and Darlo completed the 100k, although Millsy did it offically with Darlo just turning up and following the signs. A special mention to Millsy as this was her first major ride and she completed it on one of the heaviest bikes ever!!!

12/09/2009 Great North Swim (1 mile open water swim) - DONE - Darlo once again going solo on this one. With a wave time of 9.30am it was an early start to get to the start line on time, but once into his wetsuit and into the water Darlo was in his element completing the 1,600m swim in 30mins. Not having to rush to get the wetsuit off and run to transition after the swim felt a bit wierd though!!!

13/09/2009 Bala Standard Triathlon (1,500m swim, 40k bike ride, 10k run) - DONE - Darlo again, 1 day after the Great North Swim and it was off to Snowdonia for this Olympic distance triathlon. And what a triathlon it is. Upon arrival the lake was shrouded in mist and looked ominous, but once the sun broke through the view was spectacular, swimming in the lake was a joy viewing glorious montains on every breath. The bike route was very fast a straight out and back as was the run route that bizzarlly went through a local caravan park. Darlo completed the triathlon in 2h 18m knocking a min off his PB for this distance, mind you the standard was so high that this time was only good enough for 240th!!! Bring on next weekend and the last 2 tris of the season

19/09/2009Tatton Park Sprint Triathlon (750m swim, 20k bike, 5k run) - DONE AND WON - VICTORY The first IronABS victory. Yes believe it or not Darlo won the Tatton Park Sprint Triathlon in a time of 1h 7m 10s finishing over 2 mins ahead of his neareast rival. Darlo had a disaster of a swim getting caught up in the usual washing machines at the start and turn bouy, but was able to make up serious time on the very fast and completly flat bike course coming into T2 5th but with the first 4 guys in his sight. He caught and passed them within the 1st k of the run and never looked back...Next all of IronABS turn out for the NW Tri

20/09/2009 North West Sprint Triathlon (500m swim, 20k bike ride, 5k run) - DONE - Darlo, Millsy, Rutter, Dan and Shooter all completed the NW tri with Darlo, Dan & Rutter attaining new PB's for the distance and Millsy and Shooter completing their first ever triathlons the times were as follows

Darlo 1h 4m 56s

Shooter 1h 18m

Dan 1h 19m

Rutter 1h 25m

Millsy 1h 35m

Next up Darlo, Rutter and Shooter in Congleton

04/10/2009 Congleton Half Marathon - DONE - Darlon in 1h 25m, Rutter in 1h 40m, Shooter in 2hs

01/11/2009 HellRunner (11mile fell run) - DONE - The times dont matter its just getting through the Bog of Doom that counts!!! Well done Darlo and Rutter

31/01/2010 Toughguy Challenge (8 miles of sheer hell!!!) - DONE - To the edge of hypothermia, but made it through, 2hs 20mins of death!!!!!!!

At least 1 of Iron ABS will be taking part in everyone of these events and in some events we will all be taking part.

We would be very grateful if you could donate money through this web page to MacMillan Cancer Support, while we put our bodies through the pain of getting through these events, your support would be much appreciated.

Cheers
