Thank you for taking the time to visit my Justgiving page. In 2011 I will be setting out to complete my biggest sporting challenge to date. On the 31 July 2011 I will be competing and hopefully completing Iron Man U, K. The race consists of a 2.4 mile open water swim, 112 mile bike ride and then a 26.2 mile run at the end.
You may now be thinking the same question I have asked myself several times, WHY? To be honest I don’t know. So far the 5am starts and the 15hours a week of training are bearable. I have estimated that my finish time will be between 13-15hrs, so it’s a lot to ask of my body, that until recently was more tuned to drinking and the occasional game of five-a-side.
People have said “you must be crazy to do an Ironman” but doing the race itself, is the sane part, it’s the months of training that actually make you crazy, as I found out this morning when I was running at 5.30am in temperatures as low as-10c.
I have secured a place for the Ironman U, K event through the Rotary Club. I will be raising funds principally for the RNLI; (RNLI - Royal National Lifeboat Institution) 50% of funds raised will go directly to the RNLI. The other 50% will be split between the 2011 Rotary-Ironman charity causes of children’s Hospice ASSN, Air Ambulance, Cancer Charities (Leukaemia Research Fund, Marie Curie Cancer Care, CLIC Sarjent, Macmillan Cancer Research UK,) Life Education Centres, Help For Heroes and Youth and Sports programmes in the U,K.
As you can see many charities and ultimately people will benefit from the money raised from me competing in Ironman. This is no small challenge, so all sponsorship would be greatly appreciated no mater how small.
Many Thanks
Graeme Flitcroft
