Quick Facts about the Ironman Race
When? : May 19, 2007
Where? : Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain
What is it? : An Ironman Triathlon - 2.4-mile swim + 112-mile bike + 26.2 mile run. Each event completed consecutively in one day!! Lanzarote’s racecourse is known by many as one of the toughest and most difficult Ironman circuits in the world and shares a lot of similarities with the course in Hawaii. The searing heat and high winds on the volcanic Canary Island symbolize the challenge of Ironman: The battle against yourself, the forces of nature, and the most challenging bike course in the Ironman circuit!
How long will it take? : About 17 hours in one long painful slog!
Why? : Amongst other activities I volunteer my time as a trampoline coach for children’s disability groups and get great enjoyment and satisfaction out of seeing the children have fun, progress and develop both physically and mentally. The Ironman slogan is “Anything is possible” and when people are given enough time and support I too am a firm believer in that statement. Charities help many people who face hardship and suffering though physical, medical and mental afflictions and given enough support they can make the possibility of a better life a reality for many people.
Please support me in my effort to help others. I am prepared to train for the next 7.5 months and endure one day’s worth of hardship, pain and suffering to raise money for UK charities in order to help ease the pain of others.
With your support “Anything is possible”
The two charities I wish to support are Cancer Research UK and Enham. (Every year, Enham works with over 2000 disabled people assisting and enabling each individual to reach their goals.)

My Event Experience
The Swim : I enjoy swimming a few lengths of the pool or maybe even a dip in the sea on holiday.!! Can do breast stroke but find it difficult to breath when doing the crawl.
The Bike Ride : Ride on my mountain bike on Sunday afternoons when the weather is nice in the summer, stopping occasionally for an ice cream and drink. I once rode to Scarborough from Tadcaster when I was 13 (80 mile round trip).. not a bad distance, but it took all day.
The Run : I like to go out for occasional 5mile jog/run, but have never done a marathon!
