IRONMAN UK 2010 - BOLTON · 1 August 2010

Fire Fighters Charity provides care and support to the UK’s fire family. It helps with any health and wellbeing challenges firefighters, control staff, and everyone working in – or retired from – the UK’s fire services, as well as their families, may face - during and after service

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On August 1st, I am competing in Ironman UK....the toughest one day test of stamina and endurance.  The event consists of:-

2.4 mile Swim

112 mile Cycle

26.2 mile Marathon

Easy right!!.....This will be the accumulation of 2 years hard work and dedication to training. Getting up at 4.30am for a 30 mile training ride before work, not drinking on works nights out because of a 2 hour run the next day and jumping in Coniston Water to practise open water swimming whilst bemused tourists looked on at this person swimming in water between 10-120c clad in neoprene and lycra!?!

The ‘fun’ starts at 6.30 am in Pennington Flash for the swim, followed by the ride taking in parts of Bolton, Blackburn and Wigan, then finally the Marathon begins!!!!

All of your kind donations will be going to the Firefighters Charity....

“Every year, thousands of fire fighters are injured whilst protecting the public. Every 30 seconds in the UK, fire fighters are called to an incident, putting their lives on the line, and often sustaining physical injuries whilst carrying out their duties. The Fire Fighters Charity is here for all fire service personnel during their times of need, and assists thousands of individuals every year, by providing pioneering treatment and support services.

Our modern, dynamic and award-winning charity has three UK centres, located in Cumbria, Devon and West Sussex, which offer varying combinations of therapy and recuperation services. Our pioneering Beneficiary Support Services also offer local and remote assistance to people in need nationwide - providing solutions to real life problems.

It costs over £9 million every year to keep the Charity running, and with no government funding, we are completely reliant upon donations from the general public and fire community”

Thanks once again for your support....hopefully see you on the day!!
