YIPPEE! I completed the Ironman in 13h53m31s!
Thanks for all your donations!
-------------------------
On August 1st I shall be attempting to complete my first Ironman Triathlon.
An Ironman Triathlon is a 140 miles multi-sport event. It consists of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bike and a marathon run (26 miles 385 yards, 42.195 km), raced in that order and without a break.
To make that easier to understand – imagine swimming 154 lengths in a
25m pool, then cycling from Bristol to London, and then running the London
Marathon. In addition to this, the bike ride has a 'climbing total' 7131 ft or 2348 meters - essentially a quarter of Mount Everest. Yes – reading this, I expect you probably think I am stupid or mad. I must agree that these thoughts do enter my when I am training.
Leukaemia is a blood cancer – a malignant disease of the bone marrow and blood. It is characterized by the uncontrolled accumulation of blood cells. Blood cancers including Leukaemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma affect people of all ages from newborns to grandparents. My nan was battling Leukaemia for over 5 years, before it turned acute. This meant that even with treatment many of her blood cells became non-functional and therefore impaired the body’s ability to fight infections. The money I am raising will help fund life-saving research on finding causes, improving diagnosis and treatments, and running groundbreaking clinical trials for all blood cancer patients. So please dig deep and spare whatever money you have to support this good cause and my effort to achieve this Ironman.
If you would like to come and support me on August 1st at Ironman UK in Bolton, I would really appreciate it. I am also doing some warm up events (see below).
Warm up events - it would be great if you can spare time to support!
May 9th - Goodwood Duathlon
May 23rd - Ultrafit Triathlon - Dorney Lake, Eton
June 13th - Windsor Triathlon
July 4th - Steelman Triathlon, Dorney Lake, Eton
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Big big thanks
