The Forgotten Crisis

It is estimated that 5,400,000 people have died from war-related causes in Congo since 1998 – the world’s deadliest documented conflict since WW II. The vast majority died from non-violent causes such as malaria, diarrhea, pneumonia and malnutrition—easily preventable and treatable conditions when people have access to health care and nutritious food.
I am embarking on my own toughest personal challenge yet, and will be participating in both the Austrian half Ironman and Canada full Ironman to raise money and awareness on behalf of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), Congo Crisis. The IRC is a network of first responders, humanitarian relief workers, healthcare providers, educators, community leaders, activists, and volunteers. They work together to provide access to safety, sanctuary, and sustainable change for millions of people whose lives have been shattered by violence and oppression. They provide humanitarian assistance to innocent civilians whose lives have been destroyed by decades of violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In response to the recent clashes, the IRC is on the ground in the North Kivu region distributing relief supplies including nutritional supplements, blankets, and clean water to thousands of refugees fleeing the violence. The money that you donate may help support this emergency response work in North Kivu or else it could enable the IRC to continue their long-term work in other areas of the country, such as our post-conflict recovery work in Katanga and Maniema or the projects to increase children’s access to primary education in South Kivu.
Please help me to help this forgotten nation.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: International Rescue Committee UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Thank you!!
