Sophie's Ironman 70.3 Challenge

IRONMAN 70.3 Weymouth 2017 · 17 September 2017 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have agreed to take on the challenge of an Ironman70.3 or 'half iron man' to raise much needed funds for the Day One Trauma charity based in Leeds Teaching Hospitals.
An Ironman 70.3 consists of:
a 1.2 mile sea swim
a 56 mile bike ride
a 13.1 mile run
This is going to be VERY tough! This is more than double the distance of an Olympic distance Triathlon which I have completed before, and I can remember how tough that felt! However, I have trained really hard and I not only want to finish the race, but want to do a great time too. I'm hoping to finish in under 6 and a half hours, which will mean running a roughly 2 hour half marathon at the end!
Working as an anaesthetist in theatres, intensive care and the resus department I see lots of young and active people, like myself, unfortunately sustaining terrible injuries due to accidents and major trauma. Day One help to ensure that the care these people receive is to an excellent standard to first of all increase their chance of survival, and then to help get them back to as much of a 'normal' life as possible.
I really hope you can spare a little money to help me reach my fundraising goal.
