Ironman UK · 25 July 2005

Rotary - the global network of community volunteers - supporting those in need and charitable causes worldwide. Through a Charity Partnership with IronmanUK athletes are raising sponsorship monies for Rotary supported causes; principally Leukaemia Research, Breast Cancer Awareness, Children's Hospice, Shelter Box, Air Ambulance, and various youth and sports causes in the UK.

Story

On Sunday 21st August I'll be taking part in the 'Ironman UK' full-distance triathlon at Sherborne Castle in Dorset.
This entails a 2.4-mile swim followed by a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile marathon run.

The Rotary-IronmanUK partnership is supporting several principal charities for this event - I have chosen to raise money for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.

Jane's Appeal benefits four charities chosen by Jane and her family - SPARKS, Macmillan Cancer Relief, Hannah House and The Paediatric Acute Services at Leeds Teaching Hospital.
Please visit www.janesappeal.com for more details.

The event should take me around 13-14 hours to complete, and I'm told by Ironman veterans that I will find the going 'a little tough', especially during the last 20 miles! My considerable & inevitable pain will be immensely easier to bear with the knowledge that your generous support is helping me to raise money for a tremendously worthy cause. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. If you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Many thanks in anticipation of your support. Cheers, Steve.
