Together with local partners and country offices, we’re working in the world’s poorest countries to tackle the root causes of poverty and respond in emergencies, disasters and conflicts.

Story

Assalaamu alaikum & Hello,

Our Mission: To scale the heights of Mount Kilimanjaro

Myself (Waj Malik) and Sham Hussain will this month be travelling to Tanzania, Africa to attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

Known as the ‘Roof of Africa’, it's snow capped summit reaches 19,340 ft (5895m) and it is the tallest free standing mountain in the world !

Set across the stunning Serengeti plains, Kilimanjaro encompasses five different eco zones and we are expected to encounter rainforests, moorland, apline desert and glaciers ! Temperatures will range from +25 to -25 degrees Celcius.

Our six day ascent will take us nearly 50 miles uphill to the summit, insha'llah (god willing). Then two days all the way back down !

Almost 40% of those who set out to climb Kilimanjaro turn back before they reach the peak. Those of you who know either Sham or I will know we certainly have our work cut out !!

As well as being as huge personal physical and mental challenge for both of us, it provides us with an opportunity to raise money for a charitable cause.

All the money pledged and donated from you will go directly to supporting Innocent Children of War.

Where war ravages across the world, inevitably children innocently suffer and can face daily life without food, shelter or basic medical provisions. Necessities for life that are often easily taken for granted.

Your donation will directly fund the provision of food delivery programmes, medical care, orphan care and education to children around the world, in an attempt to help them re-build their lives.

No donation is too small and your pledge is greatly appreciated by us both and, more importantly, will go towards helping some of those much less fortunate than ourselves.

nb: those of you self employed / limited companies will find contributions tax deductable!!! (talk to your accountant)

Date: 2nd-12th July 2009

Our Cause: Our 10 day trek will raise money for the children of Gaza as part of Green Ribbon Week - an annual initiative supporting innocent children who have had their lives destroyed by the war.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me. Your donations can be processed quicker if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So get your hands in your pockets, get those debit cards out and donate whatever amount you can !

Thank you & Jazaka'llah
