Final update

After sleeping in & not starting ‘til 2:30am a week ago on Sunday, I finished the ride at John O Groats on Thursday at 7:20pm … three hours inside the randonneur time limit, giving a total time of 4 days & 17 hours.

All things considered, the epic was a success & should provide a satisfactory adventure ‘fix’ for at least the next couple of years.

Sincere thanks to all who contributed so generously to the Halcrow Foundation by way of sponsoring me.

On Sunday 21 August 2011 at 2.00 am, I’m setting off to cycle from Land's End to John o'Groats on the new bike I’ve built specifically for the journey.

Update … I’ve registered the ride with Audax UK & I’m going to ride the route as a ‘permanent’ randonee. All of which gobbledegook means I need to do the 900 miles or so in under 4 days + 20 hours.

Some may say … and some have said, it’s daft to undertake such a daunting task, but in support of the Halcrow Foundation and the life-changing projects it funds around the world, I'm willing to make the 900 mile ride.

You can follow me on twitter (@ivolunardi) to get updates on my preparation for the ride and to see how I'm getting along once I push off on 21 August.

Thank you for visiting my page.
