The King’s Trust supports 11 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed or struggling at school to get their lives on track. Many of the young people we support are in or leaving care, have been in trouble with the law, or they are facing challenges such as homelessness or mental health issues.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

When I first heard about 'Palace to Palace', I enthusiastically signed up to what in my mind was a nice stroll from Alexandra Palace to Crystal Palace. Don't ask me why I assumed that was the ride.

After the shock of finding out that, well, it's actually more of a 45 miles (75km) ride from central London to Windsor Castle, then came the excitement. Not only it can be done, it must be done.

Did you know that the social mobility in the UK is among the lowest in Europe and other developed countries? This means that, if you're born poor, it's a lot harder for you to improve your socioeconomic status than in other countries, and so will it be for your kids and your kids' kids. In a society that prides itself for its being democratic and meritocratic, everyone must have a fair and honest chance at succeeding and flourishing in what they do.

Social mobility is best addressed by public policy. But while our government is too busy negotiating Brexit, The Prince's Trust is working with young people (11 to 30) to make sure that they get the opportunities they truly deserve. The Trust's free programmes give young people - mostly from difficult backgrounds - the practical and financial support they need to stabilise their lives. The Trust helps them develop key skills while boosting their confidence and motivation so they can continue to dream big.

If you've read until this point, I hope that it's because you share my concern that our society is failing its youth. I am hoping by taking part to 'Palace to Palace' to raise awareness about this problem and about the work that the Prince's Trust is doing to address it. I would therefore be extremely grateful if you could please consider making a donation - as generous as you feel like. Please also share this with your friends on Facebook or other social media to raise awareness and reach our goal.
