My story

I would like to thank everyone that has donated thus far to this amazing cause. Thanks to your generosity, in September 2009, myself along with 9 other members of a team from Leeds Met travelled to Peru and built a community soup kitchen.

This community kitchen provides a main daily meal, and often the only meal, to adults and children from the area thus enabling an effective programme of nutritional food to be accessible. As a result there will be additional opportunities to promote healthy diets; to give the opportunity not just to ‘feed mouths’ for people living in extreme poverty but to develop programmes for nutrition, health and hygiene in food preparation and in the community. 

It was extremely hard work but we made such a difference to the community. We literally built the kitchen from nothing, even digging trenches for foundations. After 4 weeks of hard efforts, we managed to get the roof on and the building was almost complete. The money we raised (£10,000) paid for all the materials and for expert guidance from some local labourers.  

Project Peru supports a variety of similar projects and is always looking to raise funds to continue developing and helping the Peruvian people.

 

I am hoping to go back to Peru in 2010 to carry out another building project and therefore am still requesting you give to this fantastic cause.
