Story
In October I am walking, possibly crawling up Mount Toubkal in the Atlas Mountains. At 13,700 ft it is the highest peak in North Africa.
So why am I doing this? Good question and one that I have asked many times already! An ‘old’ friend, Alistair Turner, reaches his 50th birthday this year and decided to mark the occasion by raising £50,000 for charity.
I have decided to raise money for two children’s charities – ActOne ArtsBase and Afrikids (please see my other Just giving page).
ActOne ArtsBase was set up by Suzie Scambler a freelance dancer and choreographer who is now a wheelchair user herself. Suzie has worked extensively in both disabled and mainstream arts and recognised the need for more opportunities for disabled people to access the arts and to enjoy the experience offered for their mainstream peers.
ActOne provides drama and dance classes for children who would not otherwise be able to experience this. I have seen first hand the holiday clubs and the weekly classes. The enjoyment is contagious and should be bottled!
ActOne projects involve 150 young people from all over Hertfordshire and their projects reach around 500 participants per year. They run a Training programme for school leavers wishing to work in the inclusive arts. ActOne is run by a board of Directors/trustees. Money is always tight but gratefully received and well used!
I’d be really delighted if you felt able to sponsor me for either of my chosen charities. I want to raise £2,000 so I need all the help I can get! The costs of the walk are being met by the walkers, so all of the money donated goes to supporting the people who really need it. Donating through this page is simple and secure. The charities receive your money faster and if you are a taxpayer an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no extra cost to you.
Many thanks for your support
Jackie
