Bupa Great Yorkshire Run 2009 · 6 September 2009 ·

The charity's aims are to help children living with life limiting genetic disorders through the provision of practical support and information and treatment equipment and research. The first objective is to help raise money for piece of life saving equipment called the TMS for the Evelina Children's Hospital. The very hospital that the Charity's founder daughter died.

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I have chosen to run this 10K marathon to encourage me to get fitter and lose weight. It was always my intention to raise money for charity whilst doing this too. I wanted to pick a charity that wasn't as well known as some of the common ones.

I chose this charity as when I was watching This Morning the founder was talking about the loss of her daughter who suffered with a genetic disease called methylmalonic acidaemia (MMA). A condition that meant that Ava could not break down the protein from baby milk or breast milk. Ava died at just 6 days old. MMA can be easily treated if diagnosed early enough. The charity was set up in memory of Ava Clarke to raise money to help other people who are affected by inherited genetic diseases.
