Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We have taken a break from our time on the road and are staying in Kathmandu to work at a disabled children’s home. We're helping to look after 25 little people who come from remote and mountainous areas of Nepal where life for a disabled child is particularly difficult and where there is very little medical help or access to education.
Their disability has occurred for a variety of reasons but they are mostly untreated accidental injuries and severe burns as a result of babies and young children being left unattended with open cooking fires while their parents work the land. While giving our time is great (mainly spent failing miserably to help with their maths homework and being embarrassed at the chess board) we'd also like to raise some money to help to complete the new house that they live in. As you can see from one of our pictures, it has the potential to be fantastic but more money is needed to finish it (although the children have already been living there for 3 months).
Hence, the ridiculous Kathmandu Marathon (or half marathon and 5k to be precise). 7 days after climbing to Everest Base Camp, 1600m high, hills, cows, the most disgusting traffic we've ever known, knee-high pot-holes, guys on the route selling North Fake jackets, tiger balm and mini-violins, and most of all a lack of training and a penchant for cheep local beer and Nepalese curry makes this a really silly idea - but one that we certainly think is worth it.
Please give what you can.
