I will be attempting to swim the at the end of next month. This for those who don’t know too much about this swim, it will take me approximately 14hours of continual swimming in water approximately 18°C to cross the 21miles, entering the water at Shakespeare Beach near Dover, and hopefully getting out on the other side at Gap Gris Nez, if all goes well. No chance of stopping for a breather or having a natter on this crossing!

 

During my 800 hours of training since last September covering just under 1000kms, with most of that time spent in the pool (sorry for anyone I’ve shouted at or barged passed), there have been many sacrifices, mainly to friends and family, mental lows, (we’re talking crying, teenage tantrums etc) and many highs, It’s the best feeling getting out of the water and not be shouted at for getting out 4hours early by my coach, so who knows how it will feel to finally touch ground after 14hours!

 

James has kindly agreed to raise money for Lupus UK for his swim. I (Laura) have chosen this charity because in February 2003, my best friend, Charlotte Potter died of Lupus. She meant such a lot to so many of us, and life isn't the same without her. Lupus is an autoimmune disorder and for more information about it please visit www.lupusuk.org.uk
