I'm sure most of you will know about our long term commitment to the Bosnian arts charity Most Mira (www.mostmiraproject.org) We are both passionate about the arts; drama, dance, music, art etc and this initiative shows the power they have to transform relationships through creativity and equal participation.
We are very excited that all our children and some friends will be joining us on this challenge. We will be dipping our rear wheels in the Irish Sea on Good Friday morning and 140 miles later hope to dip the front ones in the North Sea on Easter Sunday having traversed the hills and dales of Northern England (with a few old English hostelries along the way for refreshment).
This is a pivotal year for Most Mira as it develops from a once a year collaborative arts festival into a year round peace initiative. The charity has been recognised over the course of 2010 for the outstanding work it is doing by institutions such as the British Council. It is now in a position to buy a piece of land on which to build a permanent peace centre which is very exciting.
This year we need to raise funds to help secure the long term future of Most Mira as a peace building initiative in this economically challenged part of Bosnia. Supporting us in this endeavour will both enable the 2011 festival to go ahead and begin the important work of constructing a permanent structure on the field on Kevljani.
On a personal level it is particularly exciting to see a small-scale charity become established from just an idea with the efforts of a small group of dedicated people who really care.
