We help premature and sick babies in the UK to give every baby the best possible future

Story

Hello and welcome everyone

The loss of James and more recently Thomas just a few weeks ago, has made Heidi and I more aware and mind full of the complications, trauma and devastation prematurity can cause to families.

With this in mind, I've decided to offer some help and support to the very people (either directly or indirectly) responsible for helping to look after sick and/or premature babies.  Heidi and I have been the recipient of help and support over the past 12 months, we feel it is right to now give something back.

Many charities link themselves to certain events for fund raising, I have therefore commited to raise money for the charity "Bliss" (web site below) by taking on a challenge to cycle from London to Paris, over 300 miles in four days.  I used to cycle a little in my youth, however, that was over 20 years ago, giving some weight to the not so easy challenge ahead.

This event will take me from Greenwich and out of London on the 17th June, through the Sussex Downs, into Kent and onto Dover, approximately 85 miles after leaving Greenwich.  The first night stop will be after the ferry crossing in Calais.  The next three days will be between 60 and 110 miles a day finishing under the Eiffel Tower, Paris on the 20th June.

The above event dates were chosen as James passed away on the 20th June 2008 while in Palma, Majorca.  This anniversary of his death is one way of remembering James & Thomas, but would also add some focus and encouragement to the event.

Now this is where you come in, which, for me is the most difficult bit.  I would very much like your help and support to raise funds for the above cause by sponsoring me for this event.  "Just Giving" is a web site where you can input your donation safe and securely.  Any monies donated can be entered hear either by Credit Card, Debit Card or Pay Pal (if you are used to Ebay).  All monies donated need to be registered on this web site as soon as possible for my participation on the event.  Please use the address below for your donations.

Just to make you aware, I have no access to the donations themselves through this web site, it is set up to give information and help on the donation transfer itself, who is supporting me on the event and making a donation, the value and a total balance to date.  It is set up to be monitored on behalf of Bliss and all donations are downloaded directly to Bliss on a weekly basis.

The web site will also tell you if your donation qualifies for Gift Aid, which is why it is best to have an idividual donation and not a group donation on behalf of several people.  Tax Relief is also given on company donations.

Due to unforeseen circumstances (Richard snapping his Achilles Tendon during training), the above date has had to be delayed, the new date will be Wednesday 2nd September 2009.  He has undergone an operation, leg cast, airboot and weeks of rehabilitation, training is now back on and he is looking forward to the weeks ahead focusing on the event itself.  All other information regarding who, what and where relating to the event remains exactly the same.

If you feel there is anyone who would wish to donate to a worthy cause, please feel free to pass on a link to this web page.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you in advance of any donation you wish to make, I'm sure you will agree with me, your valued contribution is going to a very worthy cause who require much needed help and support.

Please feel free to contact me for any more information you need.

With many thanks and kind regards

Richard & Heidi

Bliss is the leading UK charity for babies born premature or sick. We rely on donations to fund our work but with one baby admitted to neonatal care every five minutes we don’t have the resources to reach every baby who needs us. Your donation can help Bliss ensure every baby gets the best care.
