I am really pleased to let you all know that I have broken my swimming speed record and also my NCW fundraising target, thank you to all of you who so generously supported me.
My target for a fundraising project I have agreed to support at NCW, is the revival of the Tiger Printer in the Mathematics Department. This printer produces tactle graphs which will make the student's study of maths so much better.

I am a former student of New College Worcester. I attended from 1983-89, at the time I did not realise how much of an influence New College would have on my life. Being visually impaired made my school days much more of a challenge than it otherwise would be. There is a strong emphasis on independent living skills at the school.
If you do not know about the school, you will be unaware of what a difference it makes to the young peoples' lives. It's not just what they do, but how they do it. Many of the students are there because they did not succeed in their mainstream school, and they find being at Worcester makes the world of difference to them.
So, that is why I am supporting New College Worcester, by aiming to complete one mile of Lake Windermere on September 4, in the Great North Swim 2010.
I am in training and swimming at least a mile a day to be physically prepared and focussed. I intend to increase this as time goes on. It is difficult for a visually impaired person to swim in open water, as we cannot focus as easily on the course bouys and/or finish line.
I want to give something back to a school that gave me the best education I could have hoped for. Please give whatever you feel fit for this cause.

Please note: as a result of the cancellation of the Great North Swim 2010, which was due to take place on 4 and 5 September 2010 on Lake Windermere, the sponsorship is now transferred to the Great Salford Swim 2010, at Salford Quays on 26 September 2010 instead.

The event went without a hitch. Having trained so hard for this, I wanted to ensure that I could actually do it without any assistance from canoeists, or any other official while in the water.
Despite my partial sight, I succeeded in this, finishing the race in 34 mins 55 secs. This is the fastest ever one mile outdoor swim I have ever done in my whole life.
Wetsuits were compulsory, and the water temperature was a lovely cold 58 degrees Farenheit, or 14.5 Centigrade. That, together with a lovely sun shining, made it the most enjoyable swim I have ever done!
