Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Scope gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now, it really means alot to me.

The reason I'm doing this is to help people like Hannah.  She's a close friends daughter and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy meaning we have seen first-hand the effect such a devastating diagnosis can have on a family and the amount of work involved in looking after a child with special needs.

Hannah has a right hemiplegia, development delay and visual impairment, along with speech and language difficulties.  Hemiplegia is a neurological condition that weakens one side of the body, and affects up to one child in a thousand, its effects are similar to those of a stroke.  She has just started to walk with assistance – but needs support at all times and has no sense of balance or danger.  She can’t get into a crawling position by herself let alone a standing position, but can bottom shuffle around the house so has some degree of independence.  Hannah is also prone to prolonged seizures, usually associated with febrile illness, which means immediate hospitalisation to stop the convulsions.

Hannah and her family need the help of a range of therapists and attends a local special needs school.  But charities such as Scope provide additional support and advice as often disabled children and parents need more than the NHS and local services are either able to provide on-time or even at all.
