Along with two work colleagues I am running the 2009 London Marathon.  I am running on behalf of Samaritans.  Quite a fitting charity for a Charlton Athletic fan to run for this year!

Samaritans is a confidential emotional support service for anyone in the UK and Ireland. The service is available 24 hours a day for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide.

It costs over £10 million a year to run Samaritans.

£10 pays for 24 calls to Samaritans' national number

£50 pays for Samaritans to answer 20 telephone calls from people needing emotional support.

£100 lets Samaritans recruit and train a brand new Samaritans volunteer.

£200 pays for Samaritans to respond to 80 emails

£1,500 would keep Samaritans running throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland for one hour.
