Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thank you all for your kind words, well wishes, support and everything over the last four months.  Well what an experience indeed.  The hottest temperature for the London Marathon on record and boy was it hot!  I ran with my brother who was running for Diabetes UK.

We set off very well indeed, when we saw our family at mile 8 they said we looked as though we’d just been walking in the park rather than run 8 miles.  Unfortunately that didn’t last – at mile 12 my knee gave way a little, I managed to run to 13 and decided to walk between 13 – 14.  From 14 – 17 we had a walk run walk pattern going but at 17 I could run no longer it were as if my legs had just said “Oi, no more thanks” – otherwise known as the Wall.  Anyway we walked again up to 21 where I saw some school friends which gave us a boost to run at least another 100 meters, well until they were out of sight at least.  We then walked to mile 25 where we managed to find some energy for one final push to run to the finish line (the thought of beer was quite appealing).  We even managed to sprint the last 200 meters (well it felt like a sprint)…………..and….

 …………We finally finished in 6.02:37!

I came 23,465 overall and 3,225 in my age group. _______________________________________________________

Build Africa work exclusively with young people across Kenya and Uganda and I visited our projects last August.  I met many people including children who now benefit from attending school in a permanent classroom block rather than under a tree, thanks to Build Africa.

Just £18 can buy textbooks for a primary school, £20 buys a valuable first aid kit or £22 will buy a three-seater school desk. Alternatively, £30 can offer a young person an apprenticeship or £50 will buy a farmer a donkey.
