Story

In August Donna went into hospital for day surgery after being in pain virtually every day for about a year. The laparoscopy was supposed to take about 45 minutes but ended up taking more than two and a half hours as the surgeon discovered that Donna had severe endometriosis. Rather than being able to come home that evening Donna remained in hospital for nearly a week.

Donna was given a hormone medication which unfortunately triggered a cardiac arrhythmia which meant she could not continue the hormone therapy and resulted in her being hospitalised for another 10 days. Donna was off sick from work for more than 3 months but has finally been able to go back to work on reduced hours on light administrative duties.

Endometriosis is a disease that affects an estimated 2 million women in the UK. The severity of the symptoms varies from person to person but includes chronic pain, fatigue, depression and infertility. There is no cure and no single medication or operation that is guaranteed to relieve the symptoms.
